The hydrogen economy is a fast-growing sector in Kymenlaakso and a key part of promoting the green transition.
The region offers excellent conditions for the hydrogen economy: readily available renewable energy, an electricity grid supporting energy-intensive projects and a strong industrial base. Thanks to the forest industry in South-East Finland, the region also has access to bio-based carbon dioxide, enabling the production of fossil-free end products such as synthetic fuels from green hydrogen.
Kymenlaakso is also one of the main hubs of logistics in Finland. In addition to good road and rail connections, the region has Finland’s largest general port, which ensures cost-effective export of finished products to export markets. The port also has partners for logistics and warehousing.
At Cursor, together with other members of the Finnish Hydrogen Valley Association, we are developing the opportunities for the hydrogen economy in Finland.
Ren-Gas is planning a Power-to-Gas production plant in Kotka. The project aims to build a Power-to-Gas plant that will produce renewable synthetic methane, hydrogen and district heat from waste heat. The plant will operate as part of the production and distribution chain of clean P2X gas fuels for heavy transport.
