Significant data center project strengthens the vitality of Loviisa and creates new jobs

Singapore-based company Nova Complex has reserved a six-hectare plot for a data center project in Loviisa. To facilitate the project, the Loviisa City Council has granted Nova Complex the right to apply for the necessary permits from authorities and begin preliminary construction on the site. The plot is located near the eastern junction of the E18 motorway, and lease and purchase negotiations for the site will continue alongside the preliminary construction. The investment is valued at over EUR 400 million and is expected to generate approximately 100 person-years of employment.

Nova Complex also holds a reservation for a roughly 20-hectare area north of the current plot, as well as planning reservations for approximately 70 hectares to the south, which are still subject to zoning. These reservations are part of the company’s vision and commitment to explore expansion opportunities in Loviisa.

We are pleased that the permit process and preparatory work for the data center project planned in Loviisa can now begin. The project itself represents a significant investment that not only enhances the economic activity and vitality of the local community but also promotes growth and renewal in Finland’s broader digital economy,” says Bernard Mah, Chief Operating Officer of Nova Complex.

Once realized, the project will significantly boost Loviisa’s vitality and create new jobs for residents of the city and surrounding areas. The investments and construction will support economic growth, increase business activity, and strengthen Loviisa’s position as an attractive location for both residents and new companies.

I am truly delighted that the long-term collaboration between Loviisa and Cursor on green transition projects is now bearing fruit. A data center is an excellent way to utilize the region’s locally produced emission-free energy and enhance its value as part of sustainable development. We are proud that Nova Complex has chosen Loviisa as the location for its data center – it speaks to the attractiveness and reliability of our region. Together, we have enabled a rapid start for Nova Complex in implementing the project,” summarizes Tomas Björkroth, Mayor of Loviisa.

Loviisa is part of Cursor’s Power Coast industrial cluster, which particularly attracts green transition projects. In addition to data centers, the Kotka-Hamina region is set to become Finland’s first battery industry hub in the coming years.

A warm thank you to Nova Complex for the trust they have shown in our region, and to the City of Loviisa for making this step possible in extremely tough global competition for investments. This significant investment will create not only direct jobs but also business opportunities for local entrepreneurs,” says David Lindström, CEO of Cursor.

Nova Complex is a global digital infrastructure platform headquartered in Singapore. Nova Complex has identified Finland as a focus destination to deploy its next generation sustainable high performance computing capacity for its customers.
