Forest industry

The forest industry is thriving and innovating

150 years ago, a Norwegian by the name of Hans Gutzeit understood the potential of the Kotka-Hamina region and the Kymi River. A lot has happened since – including setbacks that would have discouraged many. But we didn’t let structural changes stop us, deciding to follow an inspiring innovation strategy instead.

Innovations already conquering the world

Kotkamills, a forest industry expert, has developed a groundbreaking plastic-free packaging board. The innovative company’s contracts with international food giants are leading to further expansion in production, creating more jobs in the region.

Another traditional forest industry player, Stora-Enso, is improving the competitiveness of the Sunila plant and investing, among other things, in the use of lignin for the needs of the battery industry.

The forest industry is still alive and kicking in the Kotka-Hamina region. Are you going to walk in the footsteps of these greats?
